15 Years of Women, Action & The Media

WAM!NYC’s Annual Gender Justice in Media Conference returns to the People’s Forum in Hell's Kitchen on Saturday, November 2, 2019.

We'll be hosting a full day of engaging discussion to commiserate and strategize as feminist journalists, editors, filmmakers, and communications professionals who are dedicated to intersectional gender justice in the media.

This year, we're celebrating the legacy and impact of our parent organization, Women, Action & The Media, which is shutting down after 15 years of groundbreaking work to increase gender justice in the media. Join us as we say farewell to WAM! and reflect on all that it has accomplished.

Our featured speakers include Jaclyn Friedman, writer, educator, activist and founder of WAM!, as well as journalist and media critic Soraya Chemaly.

We'll have panels covering self-care, the history of feminist media and its relationship to activism, how to report and write using inclusive language, safety and security for reporters, unions and organizing in digital media , plus a workshop on negotiating pay.

We'll also be paying tribute to all of the amazing journalists and media makers who created and sustained WAM! over the years.

There will be a raffle, coffee, and food!
